First off, let me give you my thoughts on the first movie. I honestly don’t really have much to say, but it’s definitely better than those Chipmunks movies and, the less said about those Smurf movies, the better. I’m still amazed that the creators listened to the fans and changed Sonic’s look before it was released, rightfully so.
Now on to the sequel. I’m no die hard Sonic fan, nor have I played the games, but this movie sort of made me fall in love with them! I think I like their movie versions best, I think I have a little…furry crush on them. This movie respects the Sonic series, it had heart, and it was just a treat. I’d also like to mention that I love the end-credits song “Stars in the Sky” by Kid Cudi. Let’s talk about the characters.
Sonic: The Speed — He’s how I thought he’d be. A cheerful, energetic, joking, speed demon. He may be rebellious like those party guys in the 90s, but he has such a good heart. It's like a character trying to break out of being what we call cliche, and I respect that.
Tails: The Gadgets — He is just so LOVABLE. He’s like a little kid with a love of inventions and gadgets. He was considered a freak because of his two tails and he just wanted a friend. When Sonic says he’d love to be just that, Tails straight up hugs him. He and Sonic have such a great relationship, I dunno what else to say. He’s also one sly fox when he wants to be.
Knuckles: The Brawn — Despite being a total badass, he’s probably the funniest character in the movie. It’s sort of like Drax from GotG not understanding metaphors. He has a rivalry relationship with Sonic like Naruto & Sasuke, but Knuckles is not one to give himself into darkness. He’s a warrior, striving to protect his people, but I wish we got more into it instead of focusing on the human characters.
Dr. Robotnik & Stone: Jim Carrey nails the performance as usual. I just find Jim so funny in certain movies. His obsessively loyal assistant, Stone, is fun too.
As for the other characters, I dunno. Sonic and Tom’s relationship was the main thing in the first movie, but it was almost sidelined in the 2nd and I think that was for the best.
As for the future, I can’t wait to see how the 3rd movie will turn out since (SPOILER ALERT) Shadow is here. I want all of us to wish the best of luck for Sonic 3 and leave your thoughts in the comments below. =D
