Omega's reason for existence is intresting, because when Shadow & Rouge decided to become a team, they asked for Robotnik Inc. to build for them. A robot that is big, strong & destructive, when he was finished and recognized Shadow & Rouge as both teammates and friends, he was officially a member of Team Dark. But the strangest thing happened when Team Dark where in a battle against Dr. Eggman, and unlike most of Mobius, Omega was able to recognize that Mr. Ivo Robotnik & Dr. Eggman where the same person, but his destructive programming caused him to grew a hatred towards his creator, and refused to be repaired by Robotnik Inc., so Shadow & Rouge instead bring him to the smartest mechanic they know, the young Miles Prower, who gladly fixes Omega, just to learn on how the Robotnik Inc. robots are put together.
